Eye Exams | North Dartmouth | North Attleboro

Having an eye exam every one to two years is an essential step in ensuring that your eyes are healthy. Eye exams not only check for internal and external problems such as cataracts, retinal and corneal disorders, and diseases like glaucoma that often have no warning signs, they also help determine whether you need glasses (or, if you already Eye Exams | North Dartmouth | North Attleborohave them, a new prescription). The optometrists at Dr. Magalhaes and Associates perform comprehensive eye examinations using the latest diagnostic equipment so we can provide you with the most thorough examinations available and make certain your eyes are healthy.

Our eye exams will take 25-45 minutes. Your eyes will need to be dilated, which means they will be sensitive to light and your "near" vision may be fuzzy for up to four hours. For these reasons you may want to bring sunglasses with you, or we can provide you with a disposable pair. Please also bring any prescription glasses you may have, including computer or reading glasses.

Your eye exam will include the following (plus other tests if necessary):

  • Complete medical history
  • History of any eye problems
  • Visual acuity at both distance and near
  • Pupil check
  • Confrontation visual fields
  • Extraocular muscle evaluation
  • Refraction
  • Intraocular pressure reading
  • Dilation
  • Front eye exam using the slit lamp microscope
  • Retina and optic nerve exam
  • Digital retinal photography

Your doctor will examine the test results and then explain the findings and make recommendations. Please share your concerns with us; we will take all the time you need to make sure your questions are addressed.
